The Fiji Chess Federation is planning to re-introduce free chess coaching sessions for players of various levels.

This was one of the areas the national body discussed during their 34th annual general meeting last Sunday in Suva.

The federation believes the sessions will increase the excitement in the sport ahead of the Oceania Zonal Chess Championship which will feature players from Australia, New Zealand, Guam and other Pacific Island countries.

Also FCF executives from the past two years were re-elected into their positions during the AGM.

President, Dr Virgilio de Asa, vice presidents Candidate Master Calvin Prasad and Gloria Sukhu retained their positions. Teliko Koroi and Goru Arvind swapped their positions as general secretary and assistant general secretary respectively.

Dr de Asa said a strategic plan was put in place to develop players in preparation for the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Norway.

“The Federation views 2013 as a very big year since Fiji will host the Oceania Zonal Chess Championship at Sonaisali Resort from May 4 to 11,” he said.
