On July 20th, the FIDE President received numerous congratulations on the International Chess Day.
President Ilyumzhinov had a telephone conversation with the first President of Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev and also, with President of Armenia, President of the Armenian Chess Federation Serzh Sargsian, with whom Kirsan Ilyumzhinov discussed the participation of the Armenian chess players in the upcoming World Cup scheduled to be held in Baku this September. The FIDE President told Serzh Sargsian to render the assistance in the matter of participation of the Armenian players in this major event. The Armenian President told President Ilyumzhinov that he had already met with the players L. Aronian, H. Melkumyan, G. Sargissian, S. Ter-Sahakyan and recommended them to take part in the tournament.
Also, the FIDE President had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Azad Rahimov who extended his congratulations to Kirsan Ilyumzhinov on International Chess Day. The Minister assured that all security measures would be in place on the highest level for the safe organization of the World Cup including the safety of participants of the tournament. Azad Rahimov thanked the FIDE President for his active participation in this delicate issue for both countries.
