First Female Children’s Chess Champion

Last weekend, Nansý Davíðsdóttir became the first female Iceland’s Children’s Chess Champion. The first tournament was held in 1994. Nansý, who turns ten years old this week, won eight matches, and did one draw.

The title earns her a place in Iceland’s team, which will compete in the Nordic Youth Chess Championship in Finland next February.

The guest of honor, and opening the Icelandic Children’s Chess Championship was President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson.

For the win, Nansý received three trophies and an ISK 25,000 gift certificate at Bónus, a low price grocery chain.
