Qf6+ Kg8
Now, to exploit the discovered attack on the queen, move the knight to check the King, and then capture the rook with check – and bingo, grab the Queen.
1. Qf6+ Kh6 (or Kg8 2. Ne7+ etc. as suggested above) 2. Nce5 dx35 3. Nxe5 followed by 4 Nf7+ …
well this was what I calculated
1. Qf6+ Kh6
2. Rc2 Qb1
3. g4
if 3 …Bg7 then 4. Qh4++
3 …Bxc6
4. g5+ Kh5
5. Qf4 f5
6. Nf6++
yours is better as after
3. Nxe5 Qd2
4. Nxf7+ Kh5
5. g4++
actually never mind yours is not better since the g-pawn is pinned.
Maybe after
1. Qf6+ Kh6 …
2. Nd4! would be a good move to contemplate.
1. Qf6+ Kh6
2. Nd4!
smokes all of you!
This one stumped me. 🙁
Nice work to those that got it.
Captain of the US “Dream Team”: Susan Polgar:
http://www.chessbase.com/eventarticle.asp?newsid=1986
At the Chess Olympiad in Calviа, Spain, the US “Dream Team” is poised to take a medal in the Women’s section, which would be a great boost for chess in USA. But team captain Susan Polgar is in turmoil. Today she must fight it out against the Hungarian team. Susan is originally from Hungary and tells us her feelings in an exclusive interview.
Susan: “Of course we can always do better. But we are still in contention for a medal after 11 rounds. That is very important. I am very proud of my teammates, the captain, the head coach and coach. We have worked very hard and we will give it our best shot in the last three critical rounds. This has been a total team effort.”
but that
2. Nd4 thing does not all the job …
how to mate? let’s say after
2. … kh5
?? is there a mate at all??
big smile, vohaul … (we made up the line to the great U.S. … but caissa prevented the match – germany vs. USA -..-.)
2. Nd4 Kh5
3. Kg3
no!
Win black’s queen for a knight with 1.Qf6+ Kg8 (if 1…Kh6 2.Qh3+ Kg7 3.Nf6 and mating @ h7) 2.Ne7+ BxN 3.Rxc8+ any 4.Qxb2. These have been great!
@anonym
“1.Qf6+ Kg8 (if 1…Kh6 2.Qh4+ Kg7 3.Nf6 and mating @ h7)” etc.
…and what about 3. … h5! in your mating line? dear friend … no mate, no hope, no nothing …
greetz, Vohaul
Vohaul,
If-
1. Qf6+ Kh6
2. Nd4! (It’s all over)
threatening 3. Nf5+ Kh5 4. Qh4#
The longest Black resistance I can find:
2. …Kh5
3. f4 be7 (prolonging the agony)
4. Qxe7 Qxg2
5. Kxg2 h6
6. Nf3 f6
7. Nf6#
In this line-
1. Qf6+ Kh6
2. Nd4! Kh5
3. f4
If-
3. … bh6
4. Qh4+! Kxh4
5. Nf3+ Kh5
6. Nf6#
@hidee congrats – i think you made it!
(the queen sac in the …bh6 line is not necessary – 4.nf3 does the job one move earlier – but this two knights mate is a MUST in my eyes! doesn’t it look great?)
sincerly, Vohaul
