I think Fidel loves chess.
ah, man… sicillian AGAIN???
What’s so special about it?
Unique because of the elbow pads…i’ve not seen something like this before…well conceived
Trouble was, if you didn’t let Fidel win, it was off to the Isle of Pines with you….
I have the same type of clock at home! Woohoo!
The leather elbow pad is quite unique and functional as well.
I saw exactly the same table (also from Fidel Castro) at home of IM Bednarski in Poland. Besides the marble chessboard, it has two holders for marble ashtrays (under the table). It came with two chairs which I don’t see on the picture.
Are the pieces fixed?
Tables like this with chess sets were used during 17th Chess Olympiad: Havana 1966. Of course, the pieces are not fixed.
I have a similar table with elbow pads. My elbow pads open up and the pieces are stored underneath. Love that clock though!
I have a similar table too with elbow pads, only without a chessboard.
