On March 26, during the working trip around the Far Eastern countries, the FIDE President arrived to Japan. In Tokio he met with Ms. Miyoko Watai, President of Japan Chess Association, and Mr. Yasumasa Nojiri, Secretary of the Association. At the meeting, the both sides discussed the implementation of CiS programme, chess propaganda among the teenagers and youth in Japan, training of chess specialists.
It was noted that FIDE would help the Chess Association of Japan allocating 1-2 stipend for students to study chess in the Russian universities. The proposal was supported by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Russia Mr. Evgeny Afanasiev.
FIDE President gave an interview to one of the major Japanese newspapers in Japan – Mainichi Shimbun. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov answered the numerous questions related to FIDE, current political situation, Russian-Japanese relations in different spheres.
As a Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Russian-Japanese Business Council (RJBC), Kirsan Ilyumzhinov had the meetings with representatives of Japanese business structures. At the meeting also present were Mr. Aslan Atabiev, Chairman of RJBC Board, and Vyacheslav Ilyumzhinov, General Secretary of RJBC.
