PanARMENIAN.Net – On April 17, President of FIDE, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, met with IOC Vice President, Dr. Thomas Bach, and IOC Director General, Christophe De Kepper, to discuss matters of mutual interest and confirm the good relations between FIDE and the IOC. Also present were FIDE Treasurer/Executive Director, Nigel Freeman, FIDE CEO, Geoffrey Borg and the Director of FIDE’s Moscow Office, Berik Balgabaev, FIDE official website reports.

FIDE has been informed that a certain entity with the name Amateur Chess Organization is advertising events so-called “World Youth Championships” and “World Amateur Championships” supposed to be held in Dubai and Paris in 2012. These events do not have any official recognition neither from FIDE nor from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

FIDE is the only global organization recognized by the IOC to hold the World Championships in chess of all categories and age groups. FIDE informs its national federations and their members that these so called “World Championships” for Youth and Amateur categories in Dubai and Paris are not the official FIDE events and they will not be included in the FIDE rating list.
