FIDE Chess in Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri

I am organizing FIDE events for two reasons: One, to give strong players an opportunity to play against other strong players with a long time control, Two, give players who want to pursue an IM title strong competition to prepare to play in Norm tournaments.

The events are designed for players with USCF ratings over 1599 who are dedicated to becoming master strength, a USCF rating 2200. Players under 1599 may be allowed to play as well if they are dedicated to improving and have shown they can compete against higher rated players. Some scholastic players fall into this category.

Three 6-player round robin events have been held in Iowa within the last year. I plan have more 6-player round robin events in central and eastern Iowa as well as Omaha, NE. One FIDE Swiss Open was held in Davenport, IA and next year I plan to have a FIDE Swiss Open event in central Iowa. I’m also having to FIDE Swiss Open events in the Kansas City area.

In addition to being a Senior USCF-TD, I have passed the FIDE Arbiter’s exam and completed the experience criteria to be a FIDE Arbiter. The paperwork has been filed with the USCF. This process is slow; hopefully I will receive the title sometime this year.
