Register for Fall SPICE Chess Classes

Beginner, intermediate and advanced chess classes will be offered Sept. 19, 26; Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; and Nov. 7, 14, 21. Instruction will be provided by members of the nation’s No. 1-ranked Webster University Chess Team, based on Susan Polgar’s popular and highly effective chess curriculum and direct guidance.

Classes will be held in the Susan Polgar Institute for Chess Excellence (SPICE), located inside the Luhr Building, 475 E. Lockwood Ave., in Webster Groves.

Registration fee is $149 and due by Sept. 15. Registration after the deadline will incur an additional $25 fee. Please send registration form and payment to: Webster University SPICE, 470 E. Lockwood Ave., St Louis, MO 63119.

Beginner Class: 9:30 – 11 a.m.

This class is aimed to students who know the rules of the game but not much more, and will introduce all the basic tactics, strategies, opening principles and endgame techniques to the student in a fun classroom setting.

Intermediate Class: 9:30 – 11 a.m.

This class will reinforce all the basic principles in all phases of the game, and will build on it with more complex tactics, strategies, as well as important endgame patterns in a fun classroom setting.

Advanced Class: 11:15 a.m. – 12:45 p.m.

This class is for scholastic tournament players. Lessons will focus on advanced strategies and tactics, endgames as well as important practical tips for the competitive player.
