Eyes on Russia for Ashburn Chess Students
Next year, a local school will send one player to the Moscow Open.

Joseph Tan, of Ashburn, led the winners of the in the recent Ashburn Road to Mastery Summer Chess Camps with a perfect score of four wins. Justin Paul and Capison Pang joined him among the top qualifiers to a round-robin tournament that will send the winner to the Moscow Open in February. The players competed at the Ashburn Chess Center at 44927 George Washington Blvd, Ashburn, VA 20147.

The three boys participated in a summer camp the Ashburn Chess Club developed to increase the level of competition among scholastic players by sending the top player to Russia. International Master Nikolay Andrianov, trainer of the chess camp, is a former Soviet junior chess champion and a graduate from a baccalaureate program in chess training in a top chess school in Russia. The camps have been ongoing during the past three years, and have been producing high-rated scholastic players.

Two camps remain this summer: one is from July 16-20, with a tournament on July 21, and another August 6-10, with a tournament on Aug. 11. Three qualifiers from each camp go to the round-robin tournament, set for August 13-18. Find more details online at: http://ashburnchessclub.com/?p=21.
