I took a short break from the World Championship fiasco today to take part in an exhibition with 3-time US Champion GM Lev Alburt at Central Park. It is organized by Mr. Ed Feldman from the NY City Parks Department with the assistance from Chess in the Schools.
The NY City Parks Commissioner was on hand to welcome everyone. More than 500 players took part in the tournament and there were thousands of spectators. The mainstream media was on hand to cover this event, including the Russian media. This is truly a wonderful event to promote chess in NY and I am proud to be a part of it. I will write more about it later.
Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Nothing but praise for your efforts to promote chess in the USA. The chessworld should be gratefull.
I wonder what Lev Alburt thinks about the WC crisis… I really respect him for his books and his games.
Some fresh air ! nice ;o)
I join myself to Ben van clierden to praise your efforts !
Courage!
What is an exibition match? A serious game or not?
What was the result of exhibition match? What time control were games?
Lev does not look too bad from that picture!
Lev looks pretty good for his age. I really like his endgame book.
What should also be mentioned is that while the event was organized partly by the parks department…95% of the tournament is run by CHESS In The Schools and its students…if not for this organization this event would not happen…so i thank and note chess in the schools’ great job running this tournament…

ok bye,
A great event. I’d love to see us do something like it here in Chicago.
Last year I think your game with Lev was a draw. So who won this year?
Susan, I wouldn’t let the bloggers bother you so much. Your chess is immaculate, and most of them are just trying to get attention by making impolite comments. The more you let them bother you, the more they will insult you. I’ve noticed that pattern in my students, I am a teacher at the college level. Good luck, but my advice is just to ignore the negative people. I am sure most people who visit this site would love to see the games that you played with Lev Alburt.
I think I speak for quite a few when I say please post your games with GM Alburt. I find that more interesting than the WC at this point.
I wish I knew about it earlier
Might have been worth going into NYC for
Hope you didn’t get wet
I was actually playing in the tournament at Central Park and once my team and I saw you, we were amazed that susan polgar was right in front of our very eyes! Although the game ended up in a draw, I realized that you swapped queens because of Lev’s agressive offense. Two great players showing their love of the game… that is what inspires me as a chess player.
I can’t see all of the pieces, but it looks like Lev played a classical Queen’s Gambit Declined Defence. I’m kind of surprised he didn’t whip out the old Benko!!
