Anderssen Vs Dufresne — 1852: Anderssen opens with the Evans Gambit as white, sacrificing a pawn to facilitate his development and put immediate pressure on black. Dufresne attempts to slow down white’s momentum with 7. …d3!?, however Anderssen is able to continue making threats. Black achieved counterplay with 11. …b5!, opening lines for his pieces. While black’s position was very precarious, he blundered with 15. …Qf5??, simply giving too many tempi to the white attack. Anderssen finished the game by sacrificing his rook and queen to achieve mate – 20. Rxe7+!! and 21. Qxd7+!!
