European Youth Chess Championship 2009 round 2

GM Chirila heading firmly in the boys U18 group
Report by Chessdom.com

In a very exciting second day at the European Youth Chess Championship 2009, the surprising results continued. In the strongest group, the U18 boys, GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan was defeated by Milos Stankovic, which left GM Christian-Ioan Chirila as the only grandmaster with full points at the group. He is now top of the table together Tamir Nabaty, IM Vugar Rusulov, IM Rosell Alvar Alonso, IM Jan Krejci, FM Kopylov, FM Axel Rombaldoni, FM Leniart, Milos Stankovic, Hanan Mordechai, Clement Sreeves, FM Paichadze, FM To Nhat Minh, Granelius, and Sivuk.

In the U18 girls section the top seeded Anastasia Savina was held to a draw by WFM Guadamuro. WGM Vojinovic, WGM Girya, and WIM Tsatsalashvili continued their successful run.

IM Nils Grandelius in the U16 and FM Berbatov and FM Bukavshin seem unstoppable in the boys sections. While Grandelius still has competition from FM Kanarek, FM Robin Van Kampen, and Antonios Pavlidis, both Berbatov and Bukavshin do not have any opposition.
Similar is the situation with WIM Irina Bulmaga, who is storming through the U16 girls section, while WFM Efroimski and WFM Lach will have to be fighting for the top spots in the girls U14 section.
