Dear Friends!

The European Individual Women Chess Championship will be held from 02 to 13 March, 2012 in Anatolian Hotel in Gaziantep, Turkey and will be followed by the European Rapid Championship and European Blitz Championship (15-18 of March).

Duration and time controls: The EIWCC consists of eleven games. The rate of play will be 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one.

Organizers and prize fund: Turkish Chess Federation, by the sponsorship and support of Gaziantep Metropolitan Municipality, under the auspices of the City of Gaziantep and the European Chess Union provided the prize fund of 150.000 Euro for all three events. It became the biggest prize fund in the history of European Women Chess events.

For the first time in the chess history the European Women Champion will get higher prize (20,500 euro) compared to the Champion of the European Individual Championship, which will be held in Plovdiv after this event.

During the technical meeting, which was held before the opening ceremony, the rating favourite Anna Muzychuk selected Black pieces in the first round.

The opening ceremony of the European Individual Women Championship took place in the Zeugma Museum on the 2nd of March 2012.

The first round of the European Individual Women Chess Championship started at 4 p.m. in the Anatolian Hotel in Gaziantep. The first games appeared to be not easy ones for the favourites and the first round has already brought some surprising results.
