Le Quang Liem, Vietnam’s top chess talent, is now among the top 50 male chess players in the world, according to the latest rankings released by the World Chess Federation.

Liem, whose Elo rating rose from 2664 to 2689 in the latest rankings, jumped 35 positions to the 44th spot thanks to the nine points he got from his fourth place finish at the Tata Steel contest in the Netherlands in January.

Liem, who is the only Vietnamese to ever enter the top 100 in the world, earned another 16 points after successfully retaining his Aeroflot title in Moscow in February.

The national chess star is currently one of the top three youth players on the planet, and has become the first player to ever win two Aeroflot championships since the prestigious contest started in 2001.

His success in Moscow last month also earned Liem a place at the next Super grandmaster contest in Dortmund, Germany in July, a tournament he placed second at last year.
