White wins after 1. Bc5+ Bd6 (1. …Kd8?? 2. Qe7#) 2. Qe5! Kg8 (2. …Bxc5?? 3. Qxb8+ +-) 3. Bxd6+ +-
It’s a win for white cause he wins all material or gives mate due to a very bad position of the black Q. The first move is obvious and not hard to find. The whole combination is all about square f6!
Nice.
1. Bc5+ Bd6 (1. …. Ke8 2. Qe7#) 2. Qe5 1-0
1. Bc5+ seems winning for white.
1.Bc5+ Bd6
2.Qe5 Bxc5
(2… Be7 3.Qh8#)
2.Qxb8+ Kg7
3.Qe5+ f6
4.Qxc5
Tactical part is over and technical part is left. But it is Troisky and tough part may be ahead.
1. Bc5+ Bd6 (else Qe7#)
2. Qe5 Kg8
3. B:d6 Qd8
4. Qg3+ Kh8
5. Qg5 and wins
Cross-pins forever!
1.Bc5+ Bd6
2.Qe5!
This not only wins a piece, but also starts a deadly attack on the king.
Black not only has to save his queen, but must also pay attention to the threat 3.Bxd6+ Kg8, 4.Qg5+ (or Qg3+) Kh8, 5.Bd4+ with mate to follow.
2…Qd8
3.Bxd6+ Kg8
4.Qg3+ Kh8
5.Bd4+ f6
Everything’s safe?
6.Qg5!
Repeats the motive from move 2 and wins.
1.Bc5+!!!! Wins for white in all variations!
>A-1……..Ke8..2.Qe7#!!!
>B-1……..Bd6..2.Qe5!!!!!
>>B1-2….Bxc5.3.Qxb8 wins
>>B2-2…..f6.3..Bxd6+.
>>>B21-3…Qxd6.4.Qxd6+ wins.
>>>B22-3…Kf7/g8.4.Qd5+ and 5.Bxb8 wins.
>>>B23-3…Kg7.4.Qe7+ and 5.Bxb8 wins.
>>B3-2….b3/f5/h6/h5.3.Bxd6+.Qxd6.4.Qxd6+ and wins.
>>B4-2….Qc7.3.Bxd6+.Qxd6.4.Qxd6+ and wins.
>>B5-2….Qa8/c8.3.Bxd6+.Kg8.4.Qg5+.Kh1.5.Be5+!. f6. 6.Bxf6#
>>B6-2….Qd8.3.Bxd6+.Qg8.4.Qg3+.Kh1.5.Be5+!.f6. 6.Qg5!!!.fxe5.7.Qxd8+ and wins.
>>B7-2….Qe8.3.Bxd6+.Kg8.4.Qxe8+ and wins. (3…Qe7.4.Bxe7+ and mates.)
>>B8-2….Qb7.3.Bxd6+.Kg8.4.Qg5+.Kh8.5.Be5+.f6. 6.Bxf6+.Qg7.7.Qxg7#!
>>B9-2….Qb6.3.Bxd6+!.Kg8.4.Qg5+.Kh8.5.Be5+.f6. 6.Bxf6+.Qxf6.7.Qxf6+ and wins.
>>B10-2…Qb5.3.Bxd6+.Kg8.4.Qxb5 and wins.
>>B11-2….Qg8.3.Bxd6! Now the BQ has to move and will transpose into variations B4 to B10 above depending on the Queen move.
Beautiful is variation B6 where the f6 pawn is pinned against the BQ and BK by 6.Qg5! as was the BB at d6 by 2.Qe5!
People saw the initial crosspin after 1. Bc5+ Bd6, 2.Qe5 but I think dk saw the crucial variation with 2… Qd8. The point of …Qd8 is that the Queen prevents White from checking on the g5 square so that after 3. Bxd6+ Kg8, White only has the (apparently) less favorable check on g3. Hence the required second crosspin after 3… Kh8, 4.Qg5. Note also that, fortunately, from g5 the White Queen also prevents a Black check at d2
Really clever puzzle. Classic Troitzky
– Craigaroo
Well done, dk. The second cross pin is the truly beautiful part of this puzzle. Troitsky was one of the best.
Well, I too saw the second pin and in showed it as variation B6 and remarked at the end of my analysis as
“Beautiful is variation B6 where the f6 pawn is pinned against the BQ and BK by 6.Qg5! as was the BB at d6 by 2.Qe5!”
