1.Bd6 wins the exchange for white. If rook moves, Bf8+ followed by Bh6#. I wonder if black can hold the ‘a’ pawn after that. Black has the rook behind the pawn but the queening square is white.
1.Bd6 R-any 2.Bf8+ Kg8 3.Bd6+ Kg7 3.Bf8+ with a forced repetition of the position.

@sudhir – in an B+R +pawns vs. R+R + pawns endgame, there is always the possibility to sacrifice a rook vs. the bishop to make a pawn promote. (especially in the given case, with a distant passer pawn.)

Why must Black reply with a rook? 1.Bd6 Bf6 2.Bxe7 Bxe7 isn’t pretty, but I don’t see a clear win for White there.

Oops, yes I do. It’s maybe 60 moves away, though, so 1. ..Bf6 might buy Black enough time to pray for a blunder.
