UGANDA’S Elijah Emojong garnered 7.5 points to win the East Africa Chess Championship that concluded at Hotel Africana yesterday.

Emojong, who also won the Rwabushenyi Open last year, kept his lead right from Day 2 in the four-day tournament where he won seven games and only drew once against Harold Wanyama.

He crowned his championship credentials by beating defending champion Patrick Kawuma in his final game.

“I expected a win and nothing else because I have been training and not just relaxing,” Emojong said.

Rajab Kamoga finished second with seven points followed by Wanyama and Farouk Fauz in third place.

Goretti Angolikin took the women accolade after amassing five points, a point ahead of Christine Namaganda and Butindo Kawuma who shared second spot.

The event attracted 54 participants including two from Burundi.
