My picks for the 2007 Australian Open Tennis are:
Men: Roger Federer
Women: Amelie Mauresmo
However, I would not be surprised if Andy Roddick wins with new coach Jimmy Connors. There is a possibility that Andy and Roger will meet in the semi-final.
On the women’s side, I would not be surprised if Maria Sharapova wins. She is the #1 seed but I have to favor Mauresmo as the defending champion and #2 seed if they meet in the final.

Kim Clijsters can also win this – she is retiring at the end of this year and is in great shape right now, so she has an extra motivation. In addition, her nemesis Justine Henin-Ardenne is not playing the AO.
I expect Roger Federer to meet James Blake in the final. The edge goes to Federer but I give Blake a change. He seems to be able to beat anyone (including Nadal) except Federer. In the womens I think if Nadia Petrova can get by the unseeded but never overlooked Serena Williams, I think she will beat Kim Clijsters in the final to claim her 1st Grand Slam title.
Congrats to Pete Sampras and Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario on being elected to the International Tennis Hall Of Fame today in Newport, Rhode Island,
Andy Roddick will have a tough match against Marat Safin, although Safin struggled in his two games, needed 5 sets.
Clijsters will win in the women’s section.

I would be surprised. Andy was the big american hope, until everybody figured out how to return his huge serve. Without it, Roddick is far from being great. I mean, he is very good, but not on the top. As for Connors, we know he was a great player, but who knows how good he is as a coach? Last year, Andy made it further than before, after Connors being “present” for a couple of weeks. I doubt it was his doing.
But we will see.
Your forecast appears rather safe. On non-clay Federer has no real competition these days. Mauresmo is not that safe of a bet. Since the Williams sisters faded out, the remaining few good players can all beat each other at any given day.

Roddick’s coach, Jimmy Connors,
is mourning the loss of his
mother and may not be present at
the Australian Open. Federer is the greatest tennis player ever, so he should win the Australian Open and possibly the Grand Slam either this year or some year. I hope Kim Clijsters wins Down Under this year and she will be missed after she retires later this year.
I think only one man can be a match for Federer.
Too good he’s spanish.
Vamos, Rafa!!!!
