According to Chess Today, GM Nakamura recently wrote the following after winning Cap d’Agde:
“… I was paired against GM Radjabov. In the past he has made some rather disparaging remarks about Armenians, as well as other grandmasters. It is rather interesting to note that when I acted in this manner on ICC in years past, people would get really upset whereas it seems when Radjabov just does it publicly, it is ok? Is there a double standard here…anyone?”
Here is the remark by GM Baburin for Chess Today: “In fact Radjabov’s comments got him a lot of negative publicity (and rightly so!) in the chess media, so I am not sure what Nakamura is talking about. There are no double standards here.”
What do you think? Is there a double standard? Is Nakamura being treated unfairly by the media, fans, and organizers?
Actually, you Americans employ double standards constantly.
No, Naka is still a standard Jerk.
I can’t understand why anyone would ever label an entire nationality. I personally have my opinion people on case-by-case basis.

No double standards, because i heard when Radja said that, but I did not know about nakamura.
There is a big different between ones personal opinions and ones public comments. And of course between Public and Personal/Private matters.
The FIDE rules make it clear “The players shall take no action that will bring the game of chess into disrepute”
Clearly as a Public figure/ a Chess star ones behaviour should be of a high standard an an example to others.
Bobby Fischer’s later years are a clear example of why one should not make public comments about personal problems/upsets.
Interesting being a Chess Genius does not make one mature or a sensible person.
Hopefully Radjabov, Nakamura and others with learn this lesson as they grow older and mature.
Nakamura recent comments have certainly taken away something from his stunning success !
How can the Public and Sponsors be expected to endorse Chess if all they see is Bad Mannered Chess Nutters.
Clearly FIDE should sanction both of these Players.
weird logic by Nakamura. Just because someone else says something just as bad as he does, he thinks that justifies his actions. His words must stand on their own!
“Actually, you Americans employ double standards constantly.”
This apply on politics.Moustly.
To me it seems that Naka is having a lot of conflicts within himself.
Nakamura should be playing chess and should not get into otherr things. Many a times its civil to keep quite. This person has to show a lot before he can throw such tantrums. He is factually wrong also as Radjabov was definitely criticised. Nakamura has attention seeking disorder it seems, he was also paranoidly worried about his blitz rating on ICC, he even alleged that Grischuk cheated to go past him. Mr Naka please play chess dont talk all this, you are not isher or Kasparov yet.
sorry I misspelled Fisher in my previous post.
Nakamura still has some growing up to do obviously.
What did Naka say in the first place?
I remember that there appeared some commentaries about Radjabov in New in Chess from GMs that strongly disapproved of his remarks! Nakamura should be more careful with what he says about his collegues. Hans Meijer, Cochabamba, Bolivia.
Naka has always been a jerk. The way, he behaves on ICC clearly shows it. The more he wins, the worse he gets.He has got his die hard fans, but they are the only ones, who like him. Thank God for censorship on ICC.And by the way..Ivanchuk at his best vs Naka at HIS best would leave Naka without a chance
sounds like someone didnt like losing in his rapid game against Radjabov.
but seriously, what a weird comment. He is really asking for “baby justice”, if I dont get a cooky so shouldnt he. The grown up thing to ask is what kind of things you should and shouldnt be saying.
Radjabov got a lot of criticism through the media when he made his comments.
the point is not the criticism since they both deserve it when they made inappropriate comments
the REAL point is how long the criticism lasts!!
Naka gives people a hard time on ICC during blitz games in the same way people do at washington park and he is constantly reminded of that even though he has apologized repeatedly.
Radja gets a hard time in the press (ok). I don’t know if he apologized. but now it is dropped and no one talks about it any more.
That is the point.
What did he say about the Armenians?
And who is this Nakamura guy anyway?
bottom line= no financial sponsorship
why does Nakamura always do something like this.??? Poor guy just can’t shut up. lol
Radjabov said in an interview with an Azeri news source that there was extra pressure for the Azerbaijani team to beat the Armenian team in chess because the two countries are at war. The translation of a translation was something like, “The enemy is the enemy. We all have feelings of hate.” He later claimed he had been misquoted, but even so, it takes a little creativity to interpret this as “disparaging remarks towards Armenians.” He also got a massive amount of bad press for it.
The only negative remark I’ve ever heard of Radjabov making towards another GM was saying (a while ago, I think) that Nakamura had only proven himself in online blitz. This is almost certainly where Nakamura’s dislike of him comes from.
Similarly, in Nakamura’s most recent blog post, he calls Karpov’s comments about Magnus Carlsen in a recent interview “appauling.” If you actually read the interview, Karpov praises Carlsen quite a bit, but just says that he would be even better had he been trained in Russia. It’s pretty clear that Nakamura was actually upset at Karpov saying in the same interview that Nakamura would likely never make it into the top ten…
Many chess grandmasters are good at one thing: play chess.
Few chess grandmasters are good at thinking brilliant about something else than chess moves.
It’s the same with actors, artists.
That’s why we have Socrates, Platon and others…
Has anyone here ever been a teenager or young adult? Has anyone here ever said something that people just seem to love to tear apart and examine as if it was their job to judge them ? I am amazed at the harshness of people! The only reason each and every one of these negative people don’t get the same treatment is that they never did anything that makes what they say recieve any public notice and no one remembers any thing they said when their brains have not even fully developed. ( See Susan, I did watch the shows on your beautiful brain!)
Jees, you guys have to do something about your spelling! English is my second language also, but you could at least make an effort. As far as Nakamura goes, the guy is overestimating the treatment he gets from a perveived group. To all americans: Does this ring a bell?
“To all americans: Does this ring a bell?”
Yes, Jon. It reminds us that you are fond of little children and like to torture small animals.
