Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Great tournament for the German players being the two lowest rated players and finishing even (Naiditsch) or even with +1 (Gustaffson), incredible performance by Nepomniachtchi, too, of course.
Surprising win by Peter Leko but I am glad to (sometimes) see him play fighting chess like in the old days.
Nice to see Ivanchuk havig recovered from his loss and end up with +1. 🙂
I am very sad with machism of Leontxo in his “Jaque” of July 2008. Incredible and horrible
Well done Peter!
Back to the 70’s: Karpov winning a tournament with +1 or +2. And everyone else around 50%.
Sort of sad to see someone who considers himself as world champion in the cellar like that..wow.
Leko won this tournament????? Well, the quality of games must have been pretty bad then. I’m sure all these players were showing up drunk to these games except Leko of course. That’s the only way he could have beaten them.
Anon @ 09:49, you are probably such a great player that you would have defeated them all, right?!
I am not a big fan of Leko’s either, but you got to give him credit for playing very solid. No surprise, a +2 score proved sufficient to win the tournament.
On a side-note: why does van Wely keep getting invited to such tournaments anyway?! His recent results (e.g. Russian League) were desastrous, and now just two draws out of seven games in Dortmund?!
Yeah, Van Wely rules! I loved those games more than others. Please invite him more often.
He lost to his boss, but misunderstood the Topalov-idea and lost to the others as well!
I can’t believe what a human punching bag Loek
(am i really 2677?) Van Wely has become. He didn’t deserve to even play in this tournament.
Van Wely is 2677, well not any more now, but he is 2600+. If I read all the comments in this blog it’s all about ratings and not quality of games, so yes, Van Wely belongs in these tournaments.
