how about:
Rxh7+ Kxh7
Rd7+, if Rxg7, then Qxg7#
if Kh8, then Qh4 with mate to follow.
How about Rd7? If QxR, Rg8++ else threat for Rh7++.
I like the 2nd answer. that looks like it produces a solid mate. There seems to be no good response to
1. Rd7
the first answer does not produce a solid mate in all lines. for example
1. Rxh7 Kxh7
2. Rd7 Kh6 draws
chesschick, all the variations you calculated you calculated correctly. But you did not calculate all the variations, for instance after Rd7+ black can take the rook with the queen, and instead of Kh8 black can play Kh6.
Rd7 looks winning and if Qg6 then …Qxg6
Susan in an unrelated topic, the first Saturday in May will bring us the annual Kentucky Derby! The cream of the crop of 3 year old thoroughbred horses who have never ran 1 1/4 miles. In over 100 hundred years this race has taken place. Before the race the sentimental ‘My Old Kentucky Home’is played to the thousands of masses on hand trackside at Churchill Downs KY. Only 2 horses have ever run the race in under 2 minutes. 1 is The Great Secretariat 1:59 2/5 who went on to become a Triple Crown winner. Winning the Derby, The Preakness, and The Belmont (by a record 31 lengths!), the other horse Monarchos recently ran The Kentucky Derby in 1:59 4/5. As you can tell Im excited already! My question is will you put the Derby on your blog and secondly who are you betting on LOL!
TFK
TFK,
I can put it on the blog the day before. I can even give my pick. However, I will not bet 🙂
Best wishes,
