Diamond ring for Anand

CHENNAI, Dec. 6: Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his team will felicitate world chess champion Viswanathan Anand on the opening day of the first Test against England on 11 December. Dhoni will present Anand with a one-carat diamond ring, worth approximately Rs 5 lakh, at a ceremony organised by the All-India Chess Federation, it was announced here today.

In another, unrelated development, it has been decided Dhoni’s security will be beefed up as the Jharkhand chief minister, Mr Shibu Soren, has directed the police to ensure that armed men – even commandos, if required – were deployed to guard India’s cricket captain. Dhoni’s standing will take a knock, though, if the Board of Control for Cricket in India minimises the roles of the captain and the coach at selection meetings – and word is the BCCI will do so.
