Surat (Gujarat), May 8 : Surat’s Sweety Patel, who won the Under-9 category World School Chess Championship held in Greece on May 6, today said she wants to become the youngest international grandmaster.
Eight-year-old Sweety, who beat 390 participants from 29 countries to win the championship, said that she dreamt about becoming the world champion about a year ago and the gold medal at Greece was a prize of her determination.
“I went to Greece to take part in the championship, I had dreamt about becoming the world champion about a year ago. I had written it on the wall that come what may, I will win the championship and I have lived up to my expectation. I have not won the gold only for myself but also for the country. Now, I want to become the youngest international grandmaster”, she said.

Congratulations to Sweety and to India !
Is it the world championship for girls or coed- boys and girls ?
Sweet…
I wonder who will be the first person who will actually be born a GM…?
I believe we will see 7 yr old GM’s in near future!!!
Imagine little kids playing against toppy for the world title
People like Sweety and Magnus Carslen have shown that chess as a game does not require maturity of thought. Just a sound base in opening theory can get you to a GM position.
Dear chess folks, please wake up to reality: FischerRandomChess is the only real chess! It is time to abandon classical chess.
