1Rb5
I think Black is slightly ahead after 1.Rxb5 Rxb5 2.Bc4 gf
No, 2.Bc4 Rd5+ 3.Ke3 gf or 3.Bxd5 Nxd5 4.fg Nf6
Sorry I was getting everything wrong, 1.Rxb5 Rxb5 2.Bc4 Rg5
1) Bc6+ KC7
2) fxg7 Rg5
3) Rxb5 ……
if black moves 3) …. Rxg7 then 4) Rb7+ KxBc6 5) RXRg7 winning Rook for Bishop
3) …. KxBc6 then 4) RxRg5 then queening Pawn
3) …. Rg6 or Rg4 then 4) Bd5 NxB 5) RxN Rxg7 anyway white is two pawns up in Rook Ending
However, after 1. Bc6+ Kc8 (the trick Rb7+ winning the Rook is not there now)
I cannot see any knockout: 2. fxg7 Rg5 Black is still alive.
More energetic is 1. fxg7! Rxd5+ 2. Ke3 Rg5 3. Kxf4 Rg2 4. Rb8! Rxg7 5. Rb7+ winning.
(The only sideline seems to be 2… Ng2+ 3. Ke4 Rg5 4. Rb8 Rg4+ 5. Kf3 with the same result)
1.Bc6+ Kc8 2.fxg7 Rg5 3.Ra6 and the BK can’t get to b7 so the skewer threat is back.
1.fg Rxd5+ 2.Ke3 Rg5 3.Kxf4 Rg1 4.Rb8 and wins
Sorry 2… Ng2+ 3.Ke4 Rg5 4.Rb8 was better for Black so maybe 1.Bc6 Kc7 2.fg Kxb6 3.gQ Kxc6 4.Qxh7 is better than that for White.
I should have said Ng2+ “was an improvement for Black” instead of “was better for Black” for clarity but I’m being a bit absent minded.
I think Philosopher55 is correct- 1.fg7 is more accurate than 1.Bc6, though the latter does have some merit:
1. Bc6!? Kc7!
I see 1. …Kc8 offered above, though I can’t see why, especially given that they see 3.Ra6. With 1. …Kc7, black forces white to find a better line:
2. fg7 Rg5
3. Ra6?! Ne6! (or Nh5)
And this looks drawish to me. Black will capture at g7 with the knight protected. White can win the b-pawn, but then his extramaterial is weak. So, at move 3, I think white needs to try..
3. Rb5!? Rg1 (any better square?)
4. Be4! Ne6!
5. Rb7! Kc8
6. Rf7 Ng7
7. b4
And this is quite a bit better than the previous line with 3.Ra6 since white’s pieces are better coordinated, and the front b-pawn is more of a threat now.
All in all, 1. fg7 is superior.
