1. Ra7+ Kb8 2. Rb2+ Qb6 (… Kc8 3. Ra8+ Kc7 4. Rc2#) 3. Rxb6+ Kc8 4. Rbb7 Kd8 (… h1Q 5. Ra8#) 5. Rxd7+ Ke8 (… Kc8 6. Rdb7 any 7. Ra8#) 6. Re7+ (Rdb7 Ne6) Kf8 7. Reb7 Ne6 8. Ra8+ Nc8 9. Rxc8#
Very nice. More complicated than I first thought- the 2. ….Qb6 line makes white be very precise with 3.Rxb6 and 4.Rbb7, then later with 6.Re7 to prevent a successful knight shield- every move of which deserves an ! .
Thanks, Yancey!
The inevitable typo – 8. Ra8+ Nd8 9. Rxd8#
I didn’t remember this puzzle, but it was posted here once before over 7 years ago.
is not simple 1.Rab2 with 2.Ra7+ mate threat easy?
1. Rab2 Qc8 blocks the threat, since the b7 R is pinned. Black will play Qxb7, then queen one of the pawns on the g/h files
Rab2 can be depended by Qc8
