O.K. I got mate in 5.Black has no choice of moves at any stage.Curiously white Q treads on white squares except the last move.But what is meant by fastest mating pattern other than mate in 5?
I wouldn’t have got it without your hints. 🙂
1Qc6 2Qc8 3 Rxb now there is option for black
You are absolutely right 3.RxB+ black has option.Q insertion I completely overlooked but it also results in mate in 5.Then what is fastest mating pattern?
Mate in 3 atmost!
There is not defence after 1) Qc6; Rd7 – 2) Qc8; Rd8 – 3) R:e6+; Qe7 ( …; f:e6 – 4) Q:e6+ and mate) – 4) R:e7+; Kf8 – 5) Q:d8
Muy buena página !!!
1. Qc6+ Rd7 2. Qc8+ Rd8 3. Rxe6+ fxe6 (3. – Qe7 4. Rxe7+ Kf8 5. Qxd8#) 4. Qxe6+ Qe7 5. Qxe7#
1- Qc6+….But it’s the same if your choice is Rxd5 no?
1.R(1)xd5 is funny.
If 1…. Qd6 2.Rxd6 Rxd6 (2…. Ra8 3.Qe7#)(2… Kf8 3.Rxd8#)3.Qe7#
1…. Ra8 2.Qd7 mate B is just looking at both R & Q helplessly. White is least cruel killing only a pawn.
1.qc6+… works as described above…I explored 2. rook at D1xD5 and 2. rook x bishop…no dice.
BUT,
1.rook at d1xd5 is mate in 5 where 1…rook x rook is the best line for black.
2. qc8 rd8
3.rxb+ pawnxrook
4.qxp qe7
5.qxq++
or
3…qe7
4. rxr kf8
5.qxr++
Out of all these which is the fastest mate in 5?
i am not sure what you mean by ‘fastest’.
qc6+ & r1d5 are both mate in 5 if the sharpest line is taken by both players.
downstream of each of these 2 initial moves, poor play by black allows a swifter mate than 5 moves and poor play by white allows black some hope…
for what it is worth, i considered the r1d5 lines first and was satisfied with this approach and neglected to examine qc6+
I have just repeated the caption of the problem.”DAILY CHESS IMPROVEMENT: MATE IN 5 White to move. What is the fastest mate pattern for white? “
