Tricky. 1) Nf3+, and if Kh1,
2) Nf2# or Ng3#,
while if gxf3, 2) Qe2+, and Kg1 falls to 3) Qf2+ and 4) Ng3#, while 2) …. Kh1 falls to 3) Qxf3+ (if Kg1, it’s 4) Qf2+ and 5) Ng3#; otherwise 2) … Kh2 falls to 3) Qg3+ and 4) Nf2#.
I briefly thought 1) Qg3+ would do it. If … Kg1, 2) Qf2+, where after … Kh1, it’s 3) Ng3+, Kh2 and 4) Nf3#
…. or after Kh2, 2) Nf3+, Kh1, and 3) Ng3#. However, I couldn’t find a mate after 1) … Kh1. Does anyone see something?
Yes, 1. …Qg3 was my first try, too. Pretty sure black gets a draw at best in that line as long as white plays 2.Kh1:
1. ………..Qg3?
2. Kh1!
And now, because of the threat of 3.Nf6, to get the draw, black must play the check from f2…
2. …………Nf2
3. Kg1
Again, black must continue checking, so this leaves Nh3 and Nf3. Black gets a draw by repetition with Nh3:
3. …………Nh3
4. Kh1 Nf2
5. Kg1=
I tried to make something out of 3. ….Nf3, but the black knights become a problem for the black queen:
3. …………Nf3??
4. Kf1 Nh2
5. Ke2!
And now the only safe check is….
5. …………Re8
6. Ne5! and white wins since there is no real defense to the Qg7#
I…Nf3+!!, 2. gxf3 (2. Kh1 Ng3#) Qe2+, 3. Kh1 Qxf3+, 4. Kg1 Qf2+, 5. Kh1 Ng3# 0-1
