After 4 rounds, only 1 point separate all 14 players in group A. Even without Anand and Topalov, the action is still exciting. The young Dutch players Smeets and Stellwagen are holding their own. It’s nice to see Gata doing well in this elite event.

In group B, Caruana is proving once again that he is an elite player with a bright future as he is tied for the lead with veterans GMs Short and Kasimdzhanov. The biggest surprise in group B is the performance of Sasikiran and the legendary Mecking.

The big surprise in group C is the performance of IM Bosboom who is tied for the lead after 4 rounds. He has every reason to jump for joy (as can be seen in the picture above). So has played some very exciting chess and he is only 1/2 point away from the top spot.
