disappointed with WAZ this year.
it was always a more “mixed” with several top GMs and a few not so top (26990 level). To me it makes the competition more interesting and give a chance to new (on the top level) players.
BTW that is why the WC should be played in matches: otherwise it’s just another round-robin. Chigorin thought that RR is the best format, but at that time all competitions had a soft “tail”; now, the calendar is overloaded with top-top tourneys.
I’m glad to see this tourney continue and its “promotion” system. How else will the upcoming players ever get to ‘break into’ the select elite group?
The current Siberian knockout WC is another good format – the very strong players probably benefit most from matches which show their depth but as a structure, it is still riveting to follow.
Nice to see Irina Krush will be in Corus.
Too bad Kamsky isn’t invited… he’s such a strong GM on the nice upswing of his comeback, but the tournament directors in europe don’t seem very keen on inviting him…
Anyway, wish him the best of luck at the World Cup, if he wins it, I’m sure he’ll be invited…
Hope Topalov crushes and dominates to show that he is the true number one.
Blue is women and red is…?
I guess red means under 18. I stipulate from the fact that Carlsen doesn’t have 18, yet. I am curious what do you think about Cheparinov being placed in the B-group. Wouldn’t it be very embarassing if he passes this round and participates in the semi-finals of the world cup to be put in the B-group? I know that most probably he will face a huge challenge with Carlsen but still…?
Carlsen wins from Chepa anonymous:)
We shall see 🙂 I root for Chepa though… I really liked his last game 🙂
I also think that Cheparinov will crush Carlsen
i dont know about crushing, its evem ,aube sñiogjtl fr carlsen
wha happend to the russian chick woh was a prodigy a couple of years ago, a gm her, doesnt she play anymore? she had a uonger sister also,
Any big names missing ? seems like a full group on the top
Cheparinov, okay. But Alexeev and Jakovenko should be there also, if this tournament was indeed the best rated so far. And, by the way, what about the chinese?
But they have time enough.
Let Topalov,Leko and Kramnik dream a little more about being immortal.
In a few years they will be nearly forgotten.
Germany!
I am happy to see Arik Braun there.
In C-Group. You remember?
Carlson also started there…
okay
Chepa’s performans in last year is the best in the world, and now his Elo is 2717, and I thing that at the end of 2008 he will be in first six in the world. You are right, Chepa must play in every tournament of Grand Slam.
When does Corus start in 2008?Good luck Judit!I will have my popcorn ready!Another USCF Lifer 🙂
I’m partaking in the amateur weekend tournament. Hoping for the best!
I disagree with some of the sentiments that have been revealed in this forum. The truth is, the only way that chess is ever going to become more popular is for the biggest players to play in the biggest tournament. This is happening by way of what is probably the biggest A-group in terms of pulling power for a long while now. There are also several very big names in the B- and C-groups. What’s there to complain about?
