In the third round of the 2008 Dresden Chess Olympiad, the U.S. team faces South Africa. On board 3, GM Shulman has made an official complaint about a clock situation. He made a move and pressed his clock. Unfortunately, his time was still running.
When he discovered this glitch, he reported to the arbiter and the clock was replaced. But the same problem continued. Now he is asking to be moved to a different board because he believes that the board which connects to the clock is malfunctioned.
Team USA won 3.5 – .5!

Oh no…here we go again…official olympiad website is listing Nakamura as having lost…meanwhile I saw that the position, and it shows that he has his opponent in zugzwang! What’s the real score!?
I saw that too and couldn’t believe that H.N. had resigned in that position! It clearly is a win for Black… I had to check several times that H.N. *was* actually playing the black pieces!!
There are often little glitches with those touch sensor boards I guess, but they usually are quickly cleared up…
Can a BMW driver please tell me again how great German Engineering is? LOL
There does seem to be some problems with knowing the true result. Some positions where white is clearly winning and the result will be posted 1/2-1/2 or even 0-1.
Vezetünk!!!!
Hajrá Magyarország!!!!!
We are leading!!!!!
Go Hungary!!!!!!
OK, since Susan is on site in Dresden, I trust that Nakamura did in fact win. I was afraid that maybe he forgot to turn off his cell phone and the ringer went off
What is the real score in Georgia vs. Ukraine in open section?
I see 2.5-1.5 on one site and 1.5-2.5 on another. Looking at the games, the games on board 3 and 4 are identical so there is clearly a mistake somewhere.
So did Ukraine managed to escape narowly or did it lose?
Ok, they corrected it now. Ukraine won 2.5-1.5
The first commenter is correct- Nakamura’s position is winning- the pawn cannot be stopped from queening. The best white can do is exchange the knight for the bishop. I am guessing it was a glitch in the site, especially since the hostess here has the US score as 3.5 to 0.5.
