Penn State chess team wins top honor

While many people were spending the weekend recovering from Thanksgiving dinner, members of the Penn State chess team were on their way to winning first place at a national conference.
Penn State earned the team title at the National Chess Congress tournament held Friday through Sunday in Philadelphia. Penn State had the highest collective score for its top four team members. Team members played six games in sections based on their skill levels.
Derek Fisher, team captain and president of the Penn State chess club, said it was the first time in at least four years, if not longer, that the university has earned the honor.
