Chicago 2016 reaches out to community groups

Faced with criticism about a lack of true community involvement, Chicago’s Olympic planners are adding new committees to represent key interests from affordable housing to contract procurement and workforce diversity.
The Chicago 2016 Outreach Advisory Council consists of several key allies of Mayor Richard M. Daley including former CHA Chairman Terry Peterson and former Chicago Public Schools Board President Michael Scott. Neighborhood community group leaders, union leaders local chambers of commerce and the head of the Chicago Urban League are also represented on the new council.
“Our plan for the Games has been a collaborative effort since the bid’s inception with the City of Chicago and the local community, among others,” said Lori Healey, president of Chicago 2016. “We look forward to continuing our community outreach efforts to ensure the Games and its resulting legacy have a positive impact on our city and the local communities.”

Rio would be nice 🙂
We’re looking forward to having you in Chicago. Thanks for all you do for chess.
I would say CHICAGO because is Obama’s home town !!! This way people from all over the world could come and see the Olympics and where Obama grew up and became Senator and then President. They could also see where Lincoln grew-up too. With Obama there the Olympics would be twice as successful as Bejing. The Olympic Committee should really consider the Obama Factor in choosing Chicago. Look how many people who visit Bethlehem still, and that happened 2000 years ago – I bet Obama will be n evehuger!
Not another shurrade full of commercials, advertisments, marketing etc etc…if the US is going to organize again the Olympic Games, it is highly unlikely that we will see any of the Olympic Spirit.

Baloney. The spirit of the (modern) Olympics is corruption and cronyism. Chicago is perfect for this, even though they can’t match Beijing’s air pollution.
If Chicago does win, I hope the opening ceremony features real live singing. Just because the Olympic Games feature the very best cheaters in sports and the most hypocritical bunch of sports organizers doesn’t mean we have to endure lip-synched songs.;0)
lip singing or not, Beijing was and will be the best olympics ever, for 100 years to come.
