Chess Daily News from Susan Polgar
Susan Polgar Blog, ChessBase and FIDE website.
I visit daily.
MSN, Google and ESPN.com
I visit daily.
I wish for more coverage.
I would like to see them add webcams.
http://www.chess.com!!!
Three most frequented chess blogs: susanpolgar.blogspot.com, Mig’s Daily Dirt, and chessbase.com.
Three others: mail.yahoo.com, sportsline MLB scoreboard, and Fidelity Financial
For chess sites?
chesscafe is great, but the updates are not frequent enough for the internet age (it is more like a monthly magazine).
Biggest problem in live event coverage has been shaky transmission. Things that really enhance the coverage are professional live commentary (e.g., Seirawan at chessbase has been great as have Susan’s very brief comments on the occasional game) and kibitzing on the side (e.g., at Susan’s blog, chessbase, ICC).

* Which 3 chess websites do you visit the most and why?
-http://chess.emrald.net/ (Great for practicing your chess tactics), http://www.uschess.org (to keep up with Chess Life Online, for US Chess news), http://www.chessbase.com (for world chess news), and http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/ OF COURSE!
* Do you feel that you can get adequate chess news via the Internet?
-Yes, I feel I get adequate chess news through chess blogs such as this, ChessBase news page, and TWIC website. However, I am disappointed by how little chess news coverage there is in the outside world. For instance when I search “chess” in the ‘google news’ there are only 1 or two good articles and all the rest are insignificant. I wish that the more mainstream internet media would provide more extensive coverage of chess.
* When following a live chess event via the Internet, what is the one feature / improvement you would like the organizers to add?
-The most important thing to go along with live game broadcasts would be live audio coverage to go along side the games so that it will be more of a learning experience for the players as they can listen to the master commentator’s ideas and plans and be able to listen how a master player goes about thinking about positions.
Your site is the only one I visit daily. Others I check in on are USCF, Chessbase, Chessville, and ICCF.
Non-chess sites include Captain’s Quarters, Pajamas Media, and The Fourth Rail. (All politics/current events) These I visit daily. (BTW, Google Reader is an excellent tool for keeping track of several blogs at once.)
I’d like to see better coverage of US events at USCF, meaning more timely coverage. They’re often way behind.

Daily
Yes, between The Week In Chess (TWIC) and Chessbase, I can get up to date results/news of the major tournaments.
I usually watch events via the Playchess server (chessbase), and they do a good job.

Daily.

Daily.
I find the Internet the best source for Chess news, by far.
I would like to be able to follow games on the screen at the same time as live commentary. For example, with Susan’s comments on the Candidates matches, I ended up printing off the game score and comments, and then playing them over on a real board (maybe there’s an easier way )

I’m bored with mate in ‘n’ move type of problem. It is kind of routine and mostly endgame (even though I may not able to solve many of them). I really like the tactical chess problems posted on SusanPolgar Blogspot. [ So far, I could not able to appreciate the positional problems like, “with this position play with your friends with black and then white”, but I’m sure for people devoting enogh time to chess, it will be useful]
For the same reason, I find in chessgames, find the next move. Usually they give sacrifice theme, but still I see that as a next site.
I visit Susan Polgar, many times a day.
Chessgames, once a week.
Apart from chess, I visit
google.com (many times a day)
wikipedia.com (2-3 times a week)
The main news and other latest update on chess I’m getting ONLY from SusanPolgar (not from any newspaper or internet)
I followed M-Tel live, last year, somehow I lost interest in watching “live chess”. I usually catch up later, including games/interviews/press etc.

* My three most visited sites:
http://www.buffalochess.blogspot.com, http://www.susanpolgar.blogspot.com, and
http://beta.uschess.org/frontend/section_7.php
* Usually I visit these daily.
* The three non chess sites are
http://www.aol.com/
http://www.google.com/
http://home.buffalo.com/
but during hockey season the following two sites as well
http://sabres.nhl.com
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/
* These too I use or check daily.
* Yes, I do believe that there is adequate chess news coverage on the internet and there are lots of choices for this.
*Saddly, I usually do not have time to follow (in real time) live chess events. If I did, my request would be to broadcast them more like a regular TV sports production with spoken commentary and at least some still photography of the players.
Perhaps even better given the longer time controls of most games would be to produce an edited show with “live” commentary similar to how ESPN edits and shows the poker games or in the past the America’s Cup races or the edited soccer shows. (You know if they were to show the poker games as they happen, they too would be a real snoozer on TV, because the poker events are too long in real time too.)
chess websites that I visit daily –

Non chess sites daily –
Huffington Post
Alternet
Drudge Report
A website providing live games should also post photos of the players in action with captions.
Definitely this blog by Susan is my number 1 most frequented web site. I come here several times a day.
Because of the election I do check in with USCHESS.org the USCF web site to read the latest attacks on Susan and Paul. What a disgrace. But I have learned a lot about how important scholastics are and how the USCF opposes scholastics. Very selfish bunch.
I know Susan said she will support a 5th person in Jim Berry but then he did fight with the scholastics in Oklahoma for years so I strongly prefer Mikhail who is a scholastic person.
Most of the other candidates are running against scholastics because the want the votes. The scholastics do not have a vote so they go against them. Very selfish.
Again I have always liked ChessCafe.com but they are more like a monthly. Recently have not been logging in much to chessbase and Mig. I get all the info I need right here.
Of course I am focused on how important this election is and I will probably drop off USCF site after the election. I get upset reading the lies they post.
I am not happy with Mig. My opinion of him is not good. But he hides it well, I guess. However, I do enjoy reading most of the fan’s postings over at Mig’s site. Most of the fans are good people. A few not so nice people post but then such is life.
Before Susan’s blog started up I used to frequent ChessBase and Mig’s DD. But not much anymore. ChessBase is probably less than once a week. I check susan several times a day. Daily Dirt is every couple of days or after an important chess news item to read what other people are saying. I do pick up some insights.
My opinion is that Susan’s blog is the best on the internet by far.
I visit this blog 3-5 times a day! 🙂 Your blog has supplanted Chessbase.com as my main source of news and views.
Henry
I visit Chessville’s forum, Susan’s blog, and ICC most often.
Depends on for what. ChessBase is superb for replaying great games and learning from them. Yahoo games is the best for playing online, ChessBaron has a superb range of chess computers to buy, but John Saunders Yahoo blog is great for keeping up with the chess news.

(e) Do you feel that you can get adequate chess news via the Internet?
Yes.
(f) When following a live chess event via the Internet, what is the one feature / improvement you would like the organizers to add?
I use ICC and Chess.fm. I like their method of presenting chess events and have greatly enjoyed watching many chess events. My one complaint would be that sometimes the chat during the games all to often becomes either juvenile or inappropriate for young audiences. Perhaps they should consider limiting chat to moves, variations, and an occasional cheer (such as “Go ‘players name'”), and that is all. At the very least, someone should be in charge to see that all discussions are courteous and appropriate for people of all ages (especially for our young players).
