I would like to thank Dr. Alexey Root, Jim Stallings, Luis Salinas, and members of the UTD chess team (BAYARAA ZORIGT, KARINA VAZIROVA, ALEXEY W ROOT, HELENE ROMAKIN, ALEJANDRO RAMIREZ, JACEK STOPA, etc.) for supporting and competing the SPICE Cup Open and the Texas Women’s Championship.
Dr. Root drove some of the players around 6 hours to come to Lubbock from Dallas to play in these events. UTD Chess Program Director Jim Stallings provided funding for the UTD team and Chess Program Assistant Director Luis Salinas made the travel arrangements.
UTD has a fantastic chess program and we hope to be able to follow their tradition of chess excellence.
