We boldy seek to elevate the image of chess as a sport and an art form by our new series of Qualifiers, Main Events and a Yearly Grand Slam. Please read more about our mission and our upcoming events. Let’s work together to make Ohio the #1 chess state in the USA.

Objectives of the Ohio Masters Series. (OMS)

1. To promote the game of chess by organizing monthly high level chess tournaments in cities and towns across Ohio. The names of these tournaments will be named after their host towns and cities (The Columbus Masters, The Cleveland Masters, The Dayton Masters and so on). These events will attract media attention and improve the public awareness of tournament chess across Ohio and the United States.

2. The OMS Main Events will give local chess talent the opportunity to shine. Any junior on any USCF recognized top 100 list is eligible to play as well as any USCF player with a rating 2100+. When possible the OMS tournament will enable chess players the opportunity to obtain FIDE ratings, the first step towards the Grand Master title.

3. The OMS also seeks to improve chess club attendance by staging qualifier events into the monthly main events at local chess clubs. Qualifiers will be one day chess tournaments in which the top adult and junior finisher recieves a free spot into the monthly Main Event. Qualifier participants who perform a candidate master level (2099+) will be eligible to play in that months upcoming Main Event. Qualifier Proceeds will be put in the Grand Slam fund, Ohio’s first GM & IM norm event.

4. The OMS hopes to have a yearly Grand Slam event. The Grand Slam event will give Top Juniors and Main Event Qualifiers a chance to play for International and Grandmaster norms. If we can raise around $4,000 dollars from sponsorships and qualifier residuals we can make this happen easily. The Grand Slam event would be one of the few yearly events in America that give the IM and GM norm opportunity and the first of its kind in Ohio chess history.

If these four steps fall into place Ohio will become the top chess state in America! We will have new crop of strong chess masters and eventually Ohio’s first home grown Grand Master!

Support the Ohio Masters Series and help Ohio become the strongest chess state in the USA.
