Chess players undergo one-day workshop

Accra, May 24, GNA – The Ghana Chess Association (GCA) has organized a one-day workshop for Chess players in the country. The workshop, which is meant to upgrade the skills of the players by exposing them to new techniques of the game, was under the instructions of Kees Hogendijk of Smart Kids Foundation.

The workshop was attended by officials of GCA and selected players across the country.

Mr Wolarnyo Agrah, Acting Chief Executive of the National Sports Council (NSC) who opened the workshop, said his administration will treat all sporting disciplines with equal attention, since the Council is bent on ensuring the general development of sports in the country. Mr Agrah said, “All disciplines are equal and we will provide equal playing ground for all of them to develop, because that is the policy of my administration”.

The NSC boss said as part of efforts to develop and promote the game, the Council will collaborate with the Association to extend the game to Schools and Colleges across the country. Mr Agrah also advised members of the Association to institute regular regional and national competitions to keep the players in good shape for national assignments.

He said the Council will also endorse the participation of Associations in international competitions if regular regional and national competitions are organized by them. Mr Agrah said the Council is prepared to provide the needed support for the development of the game and called on the Association to submit their plan of action for implementation.
