Seacoast kids capture state chess titles
PORTSMOUTH “” The Tales Told Tall Chess team, coached by Portsmouth resident Michael Sullivan, claimed a pair of recent victories.
Griffin Mooers of Greenland is the state’s top elementary chess player and Harrison Moran of Rye is tops in junior high. Mooers and Moran, members of the Seacoast-based club won their titles by going undefeated at the New Hampshire State Individual Chess Championships held in Bow on March 24.
David Martino of Laconia, also a member of the club, went undefeated in the junior high division as well, but placed second in the tournament on tie breaks. He will share the title with Moran.
