He defeated the Soviet Empire
Capablanca!

Gee I’m wondering if Susan watched American Idol tonight? 🙂
Actually, I do like the show American Idol very much. I like music. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to watch it weekly.
Best wishes,
Susan Polgar

Joel Benjamin. You rock Joel!!!
Bobby Fischer! Like Michael C.M. said “He defeated the Soviet Empire” single handedly. Before the age of chess pychologists, chess trainers, chess opening strategists, and highly sophisticated computers such as Deep Blue, Hydra, and Deep Fritz, Bobby did it the old fashioned way he earned it! With hard work and sacrifice.
TFK
I like the steely nerves of Deep Blue.
Deep Blue has no nerves at all. Computers cant feel yet, except for Hal 9000 in the movie 2001 A Space Oddyssy lol.

Vassily Ivanchuk – His Linares game in which he beat Kasparov in 1991 was the first anotated game I played
Lajos Portisch – being a positional player myself Portisch was an obvious choice, have played his games to increase my understanding of positional play.
Currently working on the tactical finish part – having realised after losing many a promising board positions against stronger player working on Alekhines games to improve the tactical abilities.
Kasparov: His approach to game & his multifaceted personality is makes him one big inspiration and would like to meet person
I think it would be a cross between Fischer and Tal.
Fischer for his classical, cutthroat & competitive chess. (NOT for his personality/beliefs). And yes, he defeated the soviet empire at their own game
Tal for his inventiveness, and propogation of chess for fun, and his gentlemanly behaviour on and off the board !
Its funny, they are nearly opposite, but those are the two I admire.
Topalov, currently
Susan!
And I’m a man! A real man!
Judit!
And I’m a real cowboy! Yee ha!

Kaspy. Capo di tutti capi.
Victor Kortchnoi car c’est vraiment un combattant sur l’échiquier.

i have two idols … 1. Alexander Aljechin and 2. Mikhail Tal
to me, the most fascinating chess players, THIS world has ever seen!
greetings, your Vohaul
great, great, i’m in the condition to write in german … (*tusk, tusk, tusk)
your Vohaul (still natural born german – beat my parents ^^)
Paul Morphy and Judit Polgar
Tal — not just for his games but also for that incredible book on his world championship match
or
Bronstein — for his creative outlook
Did all you notice Susan’s hair seems to have little waves? “Seems” because when you enlarge her user pic the little waves are gone!
Who is my chess idol? Sorry, no idea.
Susan Polgar (honest!)
Nobody for Vishy? Oh well, not many Indians on this blog I guess. He was the first GM from the birthplace of chess and popularized chess in India like no other. Today India is slowly becoming a chess superpower. Give it another 5 years!
Hats off to Vishy!…
