JACKSON, Miss. — Forest Hill High School said it hosted an annual chess competition for kindergarten to 12th-grade students Saturday.

“Chess helps the children adapt academically and think more logically. Oftentimes, it also makes them more confident,” Miss. Scholastic chess member Connie Newcomb said.

Organizers said 300 of the top players in Mississippi attended the five-round competition.
