Central Catholic Elementary wins chess tournament
May 1, 2006
CORPUS CHRISTI – The winning streak continues for Central Catholic Elementary’s chess team (members of the Susan Polgar South Texas Chess Center). Two teams from the school won first place in the Coastal Bend Championships held in Kingsville this past weekend.
The chess team was just formed in August, but since then they’ve won every division they’ve competed in. There have been other benefits besides trophies. “It’s actually helped them academically, as far as all the way around. We focus not only on chess but academic-wise, it helps us a lot, it helped raise our reading scores our math scores,” said Cris Deleon.
The school is now getting ready for the nationals next year.
Congratulations to Central Catholic!
They look like a great bunch of winners to me. I like those red shirts some kids have on with the round white ring. looks kind of Indian to me. I like Indian stuff.
Of course the white shirts with the chess boards look great also. what a good bunch of kids. I wish I was one of them.
I need some more grandchildren. how could I ever have enough grand children. they keep me young.
Keep up the good work guys and gals. I am proud of you. chess is wonderful.
