Chess Club of Minnesota offers its “Stay Sharp” Weekly Summer Chess Event to all players. The once-per-week summer round robin chess event is held every Monday afternoon from 1-2:30 p.m., and runs from June 15 to Aug. 17.

The chess rounds will be held at the Eden Prairie Senior Center, and feature both a novice/intermediate section and an advanced section. A full eight-week session and shorter four-week sessions are being offered and advanced group participants will play with longer time controls than the novice/intermediate group, and will play fewer games overall. Chess sets will be provided, but players are encouraged to bring chess sets, and especially clocks, if they have them, a news release said.

Trophies will be awarded to the top player in each section, and all players will receive a chess medal. No instruction is included during these sessions, which are for kids in grades one through 12. The events are not intended for beginners. Players in the novice/intermediate group are expected to know the rules of chess, know how to checkmate, etc.

The cost is $52 for the full eight-week session, $32 for the four-week session.
