starts with 1.Nf7
R1f7… Rg8… Rh7++ except maybe delay it by throwing away some pieces 🙂
Tantayo
1.R1f7 Bf5
2.Rg8+ Kh6
3.Rh7+ Bh7:
4.Kf7#
1. Rg8+ Kh6
2. Rf7 Rc7
3. Rxc7 Bf5
4. Rh7+ Bxh7
5. Nf7#
Move order can be changed somewhat, e.g. starting with
1. R1f7 Rc7 etc.
As I see it, until now (4 posters) everybody has it wrong.
Ano 4’s first solution is right but his add about the “other solution” is wrong.
I almost fell to it, too, but while posting my “solution” I saw that 1. Raf7 is too slow because of 1. -, Rf6!! 2. Rxf6+ (what else? the king mustn’t escape via f5), Kg7 and now
3. R6g7+, Kh6! and 4. Rh8+ 5. Rg8+ 6. Rh7# takes 6 moves. (3. -, Kg6? 4. Rg8+ mates in time.)
or
3. R8g6+, Kh8! and 4. Rh6+ 5. Rg6+ 6. Rf8# takes 6 moves. (3. -, Kg8? 4. Rg6+ mates in time.)
I do not see anything better for white in this lines so 1. Rg8+ 2. Rf7 seems to be the only move order.
Great one!
Rg8+ Kh6
Rh8+ Kg7
Rf7+ Kg6
Rg8+ Kh6
Rh7#
nope that’s off
