A Teen Chess Star? Check, Mate

Grafton youths outlasts the competition to win the title.

    • Whiz Kid Name: Anthony Souffrant of North Grafton
    • Whiz Kids School/Church/Community Center: Senior at St. John’s High School, Shrewsbury
    • Whiz Kids Accomplishment: In a long and hard-fought chess match after six rounds of single-elimination chess tournament play, Anthony defeated junior Brad Wyatt of Boylston on March 22 to earn the title “Saint John’s Grandmaster.”
    • Whiz Kids Key to Awesomeness: He fought for two and a half hours to take the title. He defeated a field of 64 entrants, including some faculty members.
