Chess team maintains string of state appearances

Cheboygan, Mich. –

The Cheboygan High School Chess Team earned a fourth place trophy at the Michigan Chess Association High School Team Tournament last week, the seventh time in eight years that the team has earned a trophy at state. Cheboygan also traveled the furthest to participate in this annual chess event, held this year at Oakland University in Auburn Hills.

The team was led by seniors Lou Agee and Cody Dodd. Agee, playing on Board 1, won all four of his games to earn an individual gold medal. Cody Dodd, playing on Board 2, won three of four to earn a bronze medal. Senior Jerry Spray on Board 3 earned 1.5 points, and junior Travis Douglas on Board 4 earned 2.5 points. The alternate was junior Justin Song, who won three of his exhibition games.
