1st Central Asia Chess Cup of the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov

Oct 25, 2011 The 1st Central Asia Chess Cup of the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is taking place on 17-27th October in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The management of the tournament is carried out by the Chess Federation of Uzbekistan together with the Ministry of culture affairs and sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The tournament is held under the aegis of FIDE.

Entitled to participate are chess players from the Central Asian countries – Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. The main aim of the tournament is popularization and development of the mass chess in the countries of Central Asia.

The tournament will be played in 9 rounds, Swiss System. 53 players participate.

Top seeded Grandmasters Rustam Kasimdzhanov and Anton Filippov won their round seven games and continue to lead the race with 6.0 points each. GM Pavel Kotsur is close behind.
