From 3rd-9th this month the Central America Games were held in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The Games, part of the Olympic Cycle, is a mini Olympiad in which a variety of sports are practiced, being a matter of honor for the nations of this area. Chess participates as a sport.

The fight for medals – especially the gold ones – are hard and the federations prepare a lot for the contest.

The event, a Round Robin Team Tournament, had the presence of Costa Rica, El Salvador Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. It was an excellent event organized by the Central Chess Federation of Costa Rica under the direction of its President Mr. Mauricio Castro.

The hard struggle was seen from the first round and the event finished in a dramatic way. El Salvador got first place in both categories – Absolute and Ladies – against all forecasts.

The next Central America Games will be held in 2017 in Nicaragua.
