Chess Academy Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) community-based nonprofit educational organization dedicated to improving reading, writing and math performance through the use of chess as a learning tool. The mission of Chess Academy Foundation is to promote chess in the schools as part of the educational curriculum. Chess is a dynamic tool for differentiated instruction as it addresses all of Bloom’s Taxonomy of Higher Thinking Skills, as well as Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences. Many studies have linked chess programs to improved scores in reading and math, as well as improved self-esteem. More information on the Chess Academy Foundation can be found at www.chessacademyfoundation.org.

Chess Academy Foundation has applied for a 50k Pepsi Challenge Grant to run summer chess programs in 20 Chicago Schools. The summer program is designed to teach beginning students the fundamentals of the game and be able to participate in a chess tournament. Students will receive their own chess set, instructional book and a Chess Academy Foundation T-shirt as part of the program.
