The reigning world chess champion Magnus Carlsen is the highest rated player in FIDE Rating list for the record thirty-sixth time. Despite winning the Shamkir Chess (Gashimov Memorial) 2014, the grand champion lost 1,2 ELO point for the new rating of 2881.
However, Carlsen is hard to catch with his 66 ELO points advantage ahead of the nearest follower Levon Aronian.
The best Armenian is the only player, besides Magnus, rated over 2800 ELO. With 66 points gap, he takes second position with 2815 ELO (unchanged since May FIDE Rating List).
Third position is for Alexander Grischuk with 2792 ELO, who is closely followed by Fabiano Caruana (2791).
The ex World Champion and direct pretender for the chess crown after winning the Candidates 2014Viswanathan Anand takes fifth position with 2785 ELO. He dropped by one position, without being active in the last month. Vladimir Kramnik is sixth with 2783 ELO, followed by Hikaru Nakamura with 2775 ELO, Veselin Topalov 2772 ELO, Sergey Karjakin with 2771 ELO and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave with 2762 ELO, who closes Top 10 for second time after March 2014.
The average rating of the top 100 staying is still unchanged – 2703 ELO.
The highest rated woman is once again Judit Polgar, who keeps the record of 2735 ELO among women. With current rating 2685 she is 56 points ahead of World Champion Yifan Hou, who is at second position with 2629. Humpy Koneru is the third woman above 2600, with 2613 ELO. The average rating of the list is 2440.

Nakamura will have a chance to pass Carlsen this year. He just be the challenger as he’s the only serious threat to the Norwegian boy.
