We might be looking at Kramnik vs Anand once again.
Yeah, but of course Anand would prefer to play Kramnik instead of Carlsen. With the exception of Kasparov, Anand is used to having Russian grandmasters for breakfast. 🙂
Conspiracy theorists will hit the board, explaining Kramnik’s win over Aronian as part of a great commie plot, in 3, … 2, … 1 ….
‘We might be??’ Ha! We will be!!. Carlsen did not like the previous format ( boring but fairer ). Here, he would normally win, but in the candidates, he gets screwed! Kramnik gets very competent opponents who lose from clearly drawn positions!.
So Kramnik – Anand. How boring! Carlsen can just go on as usual, piling up rating points and say ” Well I’m actually the best player on the planet” & ” Who cares about the outdated World Championships”.
Carlsen definitely has to work on his opening repertoire.
He rarely gets something out of the opening though his overall abilities enable him to draw Usually somewhat worse positions.
But this does not work all the time and it also would be a problem in a match for the title. A lot of opening preparation is defintitely required for such a match unlike tournaments where he can get away without much preparation and just live on his natural skills.
